Crisp Malting
Crisp Malting Group is the UK's leading privately owned,
independent maltster. The company's largest Maltings
at Great Ryburgh incorporates all the benefits that
modern technology has brought to the industry but still
leaves room for growth. Automatic processes, advanced
materials and innovative design features all contribute
to a plant that combines the traditional concept of
malt production in an environment fit for the 21st Century.
In accord with our commitment to partnerships with our
customers and their individual specialist requirements,
Crisp retains the traditional method of Floor Malting,
which is subject to the same stringent process and quality
control monitoring as the modern plant.

Crisp Pale Ale
A premium ale malt of the best barley variety grown
from each crop year (recent examples include Fanfare
and Optic). This malt offers superior milling, run-off,
and extract (typically higher than domestic varieties).
Crisp Pale Ale is malted in Great Ryburgh using modern
malting techniques to give consistent, high quality
malt.
Crisp Maris Otter
This variety of barley has long been the favorite of
the English brewers for its rich flavor and very forgiving
brewing performance. In the field, it is lower yielding
than the more modern varieties, so it is grown under
contract to Crisp each year by selected Norfolk farmers.
In the brew house, excellent yields and efficient run-off
make it the malt of choice for producing English style
beers. This malt is produced in traditional floor malting
or Saladin boxes.
Crisp Colored Malts
Crisp Malting offers a range of kilned malts to provide
flavor balance and color to your beers. All malt is
produced from premium two-row barley. The roasting (to
first crystallize and then further to caramelize the
sugars progressively) gives a more intense color and
flavor to each of the malts listed. Although the malt
is produced to a tight specification, the process and
timing of each batch is controlled by the eye and nose
of a skilled Roast-Man who, by practice, knows when
to discharge the kiln to give the desired characteristics
of the malt required. In addition to the colored malts,
roasted barley is also offered for use in dry and imperial
stouts.
